Coastal Wind, Wave and Current Design Conditions

BMT Ship & Coastal Dynamics develops state-of-the-art numerical metocean models and archives the results of regional models to supplement BMT’s global databases.

BMT is specialised setting up, running and validating wind, wave and flow models. Depending on the phase of a project, we have a battery of databases and tools to quickly provide the client with fit-for purpose operational and design data within the required time and budget.

The quality of our work is determined not only by our knowledge of coastal processes but also by our experience working with design engineers in projects including:

  • Mooring design and operability assessment studies for LNG terminals (see e.g. http://bmtshipandcoast.bmthq.com/consultancy/fsru-siting-and-feasibility/ )
  • Operability assessment at FSRU locations, jetties and in ports;
  • Design criteria assessment for offshore structures, including oil rigs, wind farms and tidal devices
  • Coastal defences, port and terminal design;
  • Design criteria assessment for subsea pipeline infrastructure

    Local Wind Modeling

    For projects planned in mountainous or dessert areas the wind and the wind generated waves, currents and storm surges, may be a critical factor in cost and feasibility.

    Coastal Wave Modelling

    BMT has a unique combination of global databases, modelling expertise and experience with engineering design allowing provision of fit-for-purpose operational and extreme conditions in coastal and sheltered areas.

    Hydrodynamic Modelling and Design Water Level

    Storm surge, set-down and design water level are key parameters for the design of coastal structures, whether a flood defence a seabed scour protection or the deck of a jetty.
